Ian Pentland showing UNMAPPED at Artefact Gallery in London Fitzrovia from 23rd to 28th June, 2014

Ian Pentland is showing his collection of drawings and models UNMAPPED in London. Pentland is an architect with over 20 years experience in town planning and large-scale projects, and UNMAPPED is influenced strongly by his architectural work. The collection is divided into five series, each different in content and style, showing fictitious maps of other worlds. As explained by the artist “these unmapped terrains and landscapes clearly represent a counterview to our golden age of instant satellite imaging on tablets and telephones”. According to the art critic Timothy Worthington ʻ the series “Unmapped” wants to break away from the status quo, to provoke thought and stimulate the viewer to question the composition in an intricate examination of our reality. The factors that contribute to the sense of intrigue are numerous; on the one hand we see Pentlandʼs roots as an influential architect; on the other hand however, the viewer, who may be uninformed and unfamiliar with the artist's background, is touched by a sense of purity and perfect harmony in an unsymmetrical but wonderfully balanced composition.ʼ
Ian Pentland works from his studio in Nice, France, and hopes that showing his work in London will provide him with constructive feedback and criticism that will take his work to the next stage.
