Mikel Algarate Hereida is a self-taught artist and he started exhibiting his paintings when he was 16 years old. During his career he has won many national awards.
His artworks are not fixed in a specific artistic genre but he considers himself to be a figurative artist but with his own personal flare.
The mediums he uses are watercolour and acrylic.
The figures in his paintings are slightly out of focus, giving the viewer the impression of movement and energy. Hereida tends to depict his figures with the backs to the viewer and facial representations are only suggested, never detailed, which gives his characters a thrilling, enigmatic and emotionally charged presence.
